French exiles and American people... I need you !
Could you tell me what are your 3 favorite restaurants in San Francisco ?
Carotule is visiting us from France, she arrives tomorrow (happy face) and I would like to try a new one with her. I thought we could go to the Slanted Door at the Ferry Building... but it seems expensive and I don't know if it's worth the price. I'm searching for casual restaurants, not too expensive, not too sophisticate, but definitely good.
I give you mine, and I'm expecting yours !
(Princesse, si tu me retrouves le nom de ton petit italien dans North Beach en passant... je prends !)
- Osha Thai (2nd street, valencia street, and more)
for : the curries and especially the pumpkin, the whole coconut to drink, the opening until midnight
against : the noise
- Mama's on Washington Square
for : best brunch, yummy pancakes and egg benedicts
against : the waiting line if you arrive after 11am and during the week-ends (they close at 3pm)
- Eiji (in Castro)
for : my first monkfish liver, the homemade tofu, toro (thon gras)
against : ... don't know yet !
And the 3 places you like for going out, have a drink or dance !
- The Slanted Door, for cocktails at a nice bar in a good couch
- The Elbo Room (on Valencia street) : we had a drink there with Garth & Thien before diner at Luna Park, it was nice and dark, with some old japonese movies in the back... and it seems to have bands and dj's every night
- The DNA Loundge (in SOMA) : just because DJ ZEBRA can't help talking about it !! but I've never been there... ouuuuuuuuh (SF's monthly mashup bootleg party on June 9, with Party Ben ;-)
THANKS for your help les copains !
Comments
* PJ's Oyster Bed - Cajun food and, of course, oysters!
* The Blue Plate - Good food and fantastic outdoor seating.
* Thep Phanom - One of my favorite Thai places in the city. If you go make sure to try the crispy basil mushrooms!
For going out I'd say:
* The Latin American Club - Good place to hang out lots of seating, mojitos in pint glasses...watch out!
* 111 Minna - High style art bar with lots of space and interesting people.
* Annie's Social Club - This Saturday is "Leisure", a night of all 80's brit pop.
For drinks, Blondie's is the place to go-- $9 for a martini that's the glass AND the full shaker. They have something like 99 different martini's, too!
I love martinis ;-)
Osha and Mama's, you wrote about them. :-)
ZA Pizza: Best pizza in town, on Hyde @ Green, they even have several tables.
Best places to go out:
Supperclub: Incredible place, never seen design and very good atmosphere.
DNA Lounge: Already been to one BootieSF night. Definitely worth it. (I must admit I discovered the smashup/bootleg scene right after that party). Next one this Saturday and I'll be there.
Slide: Great place, not too packed, convenient location (close to Union Square).
I can't recomend anyplaces because I'm Japanese and I've never been to America or where you live. So I'm sorry... But I know many lots of good restaurants in Tokyo! So if you come to Japan, I can do that!!
Tnaks again Garth !
